Aiken Schools Await House Plan Impact on 2002 2008 Budget

In a 7 p.m. budget workshop at the district office on Brookhaven Drive, Aiken County Board of Education will hear that the South Carolina House plan could add about 2.2 million dollars to the Aiken School District for 2002-2008, though no salary hike is guaranteed. District officials warn whether funds exist remains uncertain as they seek to remain competitive with Georgia and retain teachers. The plan maintains base funding at 44 million, with the state projecting 46.2 million, while the district has lost 5 million since April 2000 as tax-levy mills provide about 2 million annually.
