Flight passenger dies possibly before boarding to Des Moines

An 80-year-old man, James Walsh, was pronounced dead after arriving on an America West Express flight from Phoenix to Des Moines. Investigators say he may have died before boarding in his wheelchair. The Polk County medical examiner noted he appeared stiff and unresponsive during the flight. His daughter in law and the flight crew reported a pulse as the flight neared Des Moines, but witnesses said he was sedated and sleeping. Walsh’s son and sister escorted him to the terminal where he was declared dead at a hospital. The son told investigators he believes Walsh died in Phoenix airport terminal.
