New Sheriff and Clerk Positions Approved for Council Reading
Aiken County Council on second reading approved adding positions in the Clerk of Court and Sheriff offices including two legal staff roles and three detention officer roles at the Detention Center funded from unappropriated funds if approved on final reading. Cost analyses show seven positions funded since July 1 cost 42,970 with 36,542 more for the year, while nine positions are pending at 120,157 annual cost and 27,810 for the remainder. County Administrator Barnes warns funding all could strain next year’s budget amid reduced state-shared revenues. Chairman Warner raises similar concerns. Council split 5-2 for clerk positions, with two abstentions on detention staff.
