The 16th annual Aiken Hunt Meet opens the National Steeplechase Association season with six races six races three flat three over hurdles and a $20000 purse. Proceeds benefit Helping Hands Inc. Gates open 10 a.m. post time 1 30 p.m. at Clark Field.

Committee Says No On BNFP Storage

The House Interior Committee approved a bill requiring the president to pick at least one permanent radioactive waste storage site within five years. An amendment allowing storage at Barnwell Nuclear Fuel Plant was rejected. up to a limited amount of spent fuel may be stored at 18 federal sites including Savannah River Plant near Aiken.

Beech Island Man Sentenced for Burglary and Rape

Bernard Lambright of Beech Island received life in prison for burglary and 30 years suspended to 21 years and five years probation for first degree criminal sexual conduct after a four hour and one minute deliberation. The jury found him guilty of breaking into a Beech Island home and assaulting a woman on Aug 14 1981.
