Jail probe keeps four Aiken workers sidelined
Aiken County Administrator Bill Shepherd stated it is inappropriate to return four suspended employees to their former jobs as an investigation into jail operations continues. Jail Administrator Lonnie McCarthy remains suspended while the probe, led by the State Law Enforcement Division and the Sheriff's Office, is expected to last at least two more months and reportedly focuses on purchasing and inmate labor outside the jail.

County Council Eyes Video Poker Permit and Fee Rules
Aiken County Council will hold a 7 p.m. meeting to consider a first reading of an ordinance defining transfer of permit and fee requirements for video poker machines. The measure requires operator permission before relocating devices, with relocations allowed if new sites avoid zoning violations and without extra fees.
