St Patrick Day Lore Mixes Miracle Myth and Folklore
A survey of St Patrick legends notes snakes and vermin cleared from Ireland may be mythic, while shamrocks, the Trinity lesson, and the wearing of the green tie to national identity. The piece traces Patrick’s life from Britain to Ireland, his mission, and the holiday’s spread to America since colonial days. It also cites folklore about weather luck and superstition urging caution in work on St Patrick's Day.
