Bridge replacement planned for Hugo damaged Ben Sawyer span
Sullivan's Island braces for a $35 million two year project to replace and strengthen the 62 year old Ben Sawyer Bridge damaged when Hurricane Hugo bent it. The work includes a new steel superstructure, piers reinforced for earthquakes, a wider deck and a bike lane, with a weeklong closure during installation.
