Longtime barber slain in robber attack at Columbia shop

Police investigate a morning shooting in downtown Columbia that killed 75 year old Frank Kelly and 73 year old customer Leon Poole. Another barber, Kendrick Davis, was wounded in the neck and called 911. A gunman allegedly targeted the shop during a robbery.

Two Prison Guards Face Drug Charges

McCormick and Allendale counties prison guards were charged this week with smuggling drugs to inmates. Petro Jamane Stokes, 24, of Lincolnton Georgia, faces official misconduct possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and contraband law violations. David Dopson of Walterboro faces possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and trafficking in cocaine. Stokes served at McCormick Correctional Institution and Dopson at Allendale.

Donnie Wakefield announces entry points for Aiken Trials with reserved infield parking in row one at Audubon Drive and Powderhouse Road and general parking at Mead Avenue and Two Notch Road. Gates open 10 a.m. and close 1 p.m. no re-entry until after the final race. Two Notch Road will be closed from Audubon Drive to the Aiken area.

Aiken Training Track Hoses 300 Horses For Winter Trials

More than 300 horses mainly two and three year olds are stabled at the Aiken Training Track for winter training. About 30 horses are set to race in Saturday's Aiken Trials. Trainer Ron Stevens has saddled 12 winners in the last four Trials and has around 30 horses in training for Dogwood Stable and other owners.
