Jolly Wins Florida Special Runoff in Obama Health Care Vote Tone
In Clearwater Beach the Florida special election pitted Republican David Jolly against Democrat Alex Sink over the federal health care law. The race drew national figures, constant advertising, and more than 11 million dollars in spending, underscoring a party strategy showdown in a swing district. The district backed Obama in 2008 and 2012, though Republicans held the seat for decades before Rep. Bill Young's death.
