Mortgage Exchange Offered Free For Mortgages Over 12 Percent

First Carolina Mortgage Group tests an “Exchange Your Mortgage” program to refinance loans of 12 percent or higher at no closing costs or points. South Carolina homeowners could save thousands by dropping high-rate mortgages to 12 percent, with fees applying only if final rates are below 12 percent.

State Residents Arrested In Clip Scam

Five South Carolina merchants were among more than 50 people from South Carolina, Florida, and California arrested in Operation Clip. The Miami based ring allegedly submitted millions of dollars in counterfeit manufacturers coupons, with 2 cent insect repellent coupons used to lure attention. The Bahhurs operated International Coupon Redemption Inc. in North Charleston in 1982 83 serving up to 800 stores before closing in 1983. The Postal Inspection Service investigation linked grocers in several states to the scheme with kickbacks up to 50 percent.
