Tiny bubbles spark potential medical breakthroughs
Dr. George Wicks of ARC in Aiken discussed tiny glass micro-balloons with through-wall porosity, about 3 the diameter of a hair, capable of carrying cargos for controlled drug delivery. The technology, once used in nuclear contexts, could enable time release medical devices and targeted therapies with on demand release, and is being explored with Augusta University and VA doctors.
