Poker suits settled in Barnwell and Aiken counties

A Barnwell County woman reached a settlement in a lawsuit against more than a dozen Aiken County video poker businesses and distributors over alleged losses by her son Kerry C. Baxley. Terms were not disclosed.

Midlands Flash Flood Warning After Heavy Rains

A flash flood warning was issued for Calhoun Clarendon Lexington Richland and Sumter counties after heavy rains. About 1.3 inches fell Friday with 1.2 more inches forecast. Sumter bill shot down in Fort Sumter dispute

Senate major Thurmond refuses to back a private relief bill to let an arbitrator settle a seven year fee clash between the National Park Service and Fort Sumter Tours Inc. Tour president Campsen argues for relief as fees jump from 4.25 to 12 percent, risking $2.2 million and putting the company at peril. Robber sentenced after note demanded cash at Aiken store

Damon Simpkins received a five year sentence with two years probation for the October Warrenville market robbery. He earned credit for 134 days behind bars while awaiting guilty plea. Restitution of 1009.26 was ordered to Gurley’s Supermarket, with possible placement in a restitution center if payments fall short.
