Edgefield man charged after traffic stop in Aiken

Edgefield man Johnathan Terraze Peter son, 34, faces four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, possession of marijuana, speeding in a school zone, driving under suspension, open container, and child restraint violation after a Rutland Drive traffic stop near CVS. He was held at the Aiken County detention center.

Arkansas bill seeks limits on releasing dashcam death video

Six years after officer Jonathan Schmidt was killed, his widow and allies push to curb public release of dashcam footage. Rep. Jimmy Gazaway says a court should weigh public interest before broad release, while officials note the video remains a government record. The measure passed the House 94-0 and faces Senate approval.

Vandalism and theft incidents across Aiken County reported

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office reports include a 37 year old man whose vehicle was scratched while parked in an unknown location. A sunglasses case with narcotics was found outside a Jefferson Davis Highway motel next to a spray painted car. Other cases involve credit card fraud, stolen items from a truck, vehicle break ins, a suspected heroin overdose disturbance, trespassing arrests, noisy neighbors, a student disruptive conduct incident, a trespass order at a University Parkway restaurant, and a burglary claim on Laurens Street.

Bluegrass Festival and Teas Include Local Ballet Events

South Aiken Baptist Christian School hosts a Saturday Bluegrass Festival featuring Columbia Bluegrass Co., Flatland Express, One Step Ahead, The Suggins Brothers and more with gates at 10 am and music 1 to 10 pm. Admission 12 dollars, free for ages 3 and younger. Book swap runs 10 am to 1 pm at The Village at Woodsie. Tea party with Aiken Civic Ballet cast for Alice in Wonderland at Pitter Potter Children's Boutique on Sunday at 1:30 and 3 pm, admission 10 dollars, reservations advised.
