Rare leatherback sea turtle rescued near Charlestown
A 500 pound leatherback nicknamed Yawkey was rescued on a remote Georgetown County beach and treated at the South Carolina Aquarium. It is the first leatherback known to have stranded alive in South Carolina, with care for low blood sugar and possible plastic ingestion. Researchers note leatherbacks migrate along the Gulf Stream and hope for a swift release as captivity harms them.
