Amethyst Prospects by Campbell Family in the South
Tom and Juanita Campbell of Jackson along with Cecil Butler and Jack Hoy prospected amethyst in Wilkes County Georgia and near Antreville South Carolina. The couple, longtime mineral collectors, helped establish amethyst as South Carolina’s official gemstone through a 1969 bill signed by Gov. McNair. They shared mining trials, secret sites, and lapidary work with the Aiken Gem and Mineral Society.
