Wholesale prices for food and a broad range of industrial products jumped one percent in February, led by farm products and processed foods up 1.9 percent. Raw materials and manufactured goods rose 0.5 percent, with the seasonal adjustment showing a 0.7 percent rise, the largest since December.
Chiang Kai-shek accepted the Kuo mintang call to remain Nationalist China president. His nomination for a fifth six year term gives him a path to re election as the Kuomintang controlled National Assembly plans to select the president on March 21.
Top airline officials were summoned to Washington to help thwart what President Nixon called vicious extortion plots against carriers. Nixon ordered immediate rules to keep dangerous people and weapons off planes, with new procedures to take effect in three months, in a meeting with Secretary Volpe and the FAA.
Harness racing at 2 pm Sunday March 12 at Jefferson Mile Track Banks Mill Road features graceful trotters and pacers. Polo game scheduled for 3 30 pm Sunday March 26 at Whitney Field Mead Ave with teams competing.
The 30th Ai ken Training Track Public Trials start at 2 p m with about 27 two year old Thoroughbreds in attendance. Trainers explain the races act as a concentrated education for horses while helping older horses sharpen and condition. Spectators anticipate the social spectacle, the starting gate, and the finish line as the sport gains southern grass roots appeal.

The Lower Savannah Regional Planning and Development Commission named Hammond James Hammond unanimously as executive director. He will earn 16000 annually with a 214320 budget and has served as temporary director since January 1. Hammond is a Durham NC native, University of Alabama graduate, retired Army captain, and resides with his wife Jenni at 149 Whiskey Road, Aiken.
