Jury scam targets elderly Aiken woman in broad daylight
An 83 year old Aiken woman nearly fainted after being told by a caller posing as an Aiken County Sheriff's lieutenant that she had warrants for missing jury duty. She was directed to buy pre paid credit cards totaling about 3800 dollars and give the card numbers to the scammer. Officers intervened as the incident unfolded near Silver Bluff Road. A second scam involved a 70 year old who was told she missed a grand jury hearing and was asked for personal details. The victim was advised to alert her bank and monitor accounts.
