Public records show the high school freshman who allegedly went on a shooting rampage in San Diego lived in Aiken County for two years in the 1990s. His mother Linda Wells remains in the area and described her son as normal. Classmates recalled taunting and warnings from the boy, identified as Charles Andrew Williams, who killed two and wounded 13 at Santana High School.
Six men were involved in an early morning crash at Abbeville Avenue and Union Street in Air. Three were taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers with neck injuries. Esau Butler Jr, 20, led Edgefield and Aiken County deputies on a roughly four and a half hour pursuit after attempts to serve 14 burglary warrants at an industrial Trenton office. He crashed west of Eureka, fled on foot into woods, and was captured following a lengthy search.
Three Midland Valley High School students face adult prosecution after a Feb 22 vandalism spree. Wesley Matthews 17 Beech Island Brandon Dyches 16 Aiken and James Sellers 16 Beech Island were arrested. Matthews released on 10000 bond. Duches and Sellers held in a Columbia juvenile facility.
County officials describe a driver shortage in Aiken and nearby districts as an ongoing challenge. Dr. Bill Gallman notes vacancies of four to six daily, with trained drivers leaving for other jobs. Williston-Elko and Edgefield County transport chiefs report similar turnover and scheduling pressures affecting routes and sport trips.
