Anaclerio Cleared To Vote On Aiken Bond Issue

More Trees Cut Down In County By George

An out of town contractor faces up to 16590 in fines after violating Aiken's Tree Protection and Landscape Ordinance by cutting down 70 trees on Cardinal Drive near Silver Bluff Road behind Dr. Fred W. Greene's offices. City Attorney James M. Holly says the contractor has been charged with removing 20 large pines and could be charged 237 for each of the 70 trees. The case goes to City Court on March 15 with potential damages sought for 50 additional trees. If guilty and unable to pay, the contractor could be sentenced to 30 days per tree.
