Man allegedly tries to steal copper at Walmart in Aiken
An Aiken man attempted to steal copper wiring from an electrical box at the Walmart on Whiskey Road around 10 a.m. Monday. Officers questioned the store manager after a loud noise and smoke were seen from behind the store. The suspect fled toward Neilson Street but was located on Dougherty Road with charring on his chest and arms and was taken by EMS.

Wagener Man Faces Animal Cruelty Charges
An 83 year old Wagener resident Edward Smith was jailed on animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting and killing two dogs at his Eagerton Road home. He was held at the Aiken County detention center as deputies investigated the incident reported around 10:20 a.m. on Monday. Smith said the Department of Social Services told him his wife could stay only if the dogs left, which led to the killings.
