First Steps funding in doubt for Aiken County
Aiken County First Steps faces possible program cuts as the S.C. House Ways and Means Committee proposes a 22 million statewide allocation, far short of the 45 million officials say is needed. If funding drops, full day four-year-old kindergarten could shrink from 160 to 80 in the county, with ongoing child care subsidies and an evaluation program led by Jeff Sheldon through USC.
