Dr. Ernest Arthur Browder, 83, still makes house calls in Stevenson Alabama after retiring from office practice in 1974. He treated 5 000 babies and recalls tending patients from Bridgeport to Scottsboro. Browder favors patients who cannot afford hospital care and notes medicine has changed since he began in the 1930s. He moved to Stevenson in 1937 to supply the town with a doctor and once traveled by horse or on foot to reach patients in hardship.
