Martins help reduce insecticide use say Clemson experts
Professor R E Ware notes martins as biological control and urges citizens to welcome them. A watchdog counted 3 277 returns with insects at a single colony from dawn to dusk, illustrating martins as effective, non chemical pest control. Henry Salters s gourds host 25 martin pairs, with 3 000 gourds grown for sale on a self service basis. Martins prefer open fields near woods. varnish or paint does not deter nesting.
