Rep. Lindsey Graham R S C urged Congress to pause and dialogue on Puerto Rico statehood citing English language needs, costs and representation issues. He warned a forthcoming House vote could face many unanswered questions and costs totaling about 18 billion over five years.
City Administrator Charles Martin said yearly purchases would total about $246,371 for five years. The council also presented service awards to 19 employees, with 25 year pins for Ron DeLaughter, Lee Wetherington and Dorothy Harter.
Extension Director Tony Watson warns certain peach varieties are most vulnerable during full bloom. Cold nights, including tonight and Wednesday, could curb fruit set. In California, heavy rains and winds slow harvests, with almond pollination hindered and citrus picking behind schedule. Peaches in Fresno area appear less hit, but outcomes will show over the next two weeks.
The Aiken Historic Preservation Commission meets tonight at 6 30 p m in room 204 of the Municipal Building at 214 Park Ave to review changes to the preservation tax incentive program design guidelines and the impact of new zoning on the historic preservation ordinance. It will also consider removing the C C Johnson Building from the Aiken Historic Register in a related matter.
