Inmates Work Return to Lockup Upsets Aiken Businesses
Lynn Zody owner of Burger King and Western Sizzlin in Aiken pulls out of a state rehabilitation program after 264 violent work release prisoners statewide were moved back to fenced facilities. Gov Beasley and Corrections Director Moore ordered the transfer. 31 inmates at Lower Savannah Work Release Center were moved due to unsupervised work settings. Two local employees valued by Zody and two praised by Robert Jackson of Aiken Mill Service lost to the move, with Jackson noting one would be released Friday.
