Sulky Races Highlight Aiken Triple Crown Weekend

Aiken hosts the Sulky and Harness races at the Aiken Mile Track on Hanks Mill Road with gates at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tickets cost 2 dollars for adults and 1 for children under 12. The fifth annual Triple Crown Road Races occur at H. O. Weeks Center on Whiskey Road, featuring 1 mile, 2 mile, and 10 mile runs with entry fees from 3 to 6 dollars and awards at 11:30 a.m. The Aiken Hunt Meet at Clark Field on Powderhouse Road on March 21 offers prize money and benefits Helping Hands Inc. Post times and advance tickets noted through local chambers and sponsors.

Jackson To Get SRP Service

The Public Service Commission approved about 75 percent of Continental Telephone’s requested rate increase for Jackson South Carolina. The approval includes a 13.87 percent return on investment totaling $414,739 and a six month deadline to establish local calling to SRP. The average monthly bill rises from $6 to $7.05.

Minister Dr John H Law to Leave Aiken Church for St Simon's Island

Dr John H Law will resign as minister of First Presbyterian Church in Aiken at month end to begin duties at St Simon's Island Presbyterian Church on April 1. A congregational meeting is set for March 15 to announce the decision. Law cited a sense of calling and has led community programs including a Salvation Army Food Bank and a Family of the Month sponsorship during his three years in Aiken. He previously led the Dalton church for 11 years and has served as moderator of the Presbyterian Synod of the Southeast.
