American tourist expelled from Uganda arrives in Nairobi

An American tourist named Brian Schwartz, detained for two days during Idi Amin's ban on Americans leaving Uganda, arrived in Nairobi as he was expelled. The U S Embassy confirmed his name but could not provide age or address and gave no explanation for the detention in Kampala.

Miners Trapped After Flood at Kocher Coal Mine

Nine miners were trapped in the Porter Tunnel of Kocher Coal Co. in Schuylkill County after a three foot wall of water flooded the tunnel. One miner died and three were injured as rescuers dug through timber and debris with little hope of survival. There was no sign of life inside the flooded mine mid day Tuesday.

USC Aiken May Oppose Control By Main Campus

ACCHE plans to oppose a bill giving USC control over Aiken’s regional campus. The group will meet lawmakers and university officials before reacting.
