Postmaster Explains Proposed Increases in Mail Rates
Aiken Postmaster Woodrow Wilson outlines proposed U S postal rate increases to fund the system on a sound financial footing shifting costs to high volume mailers. Rates would rise across mail categories with heavy increases for magazines newspapers and other second class mail to be phased in over five years and total yield projected at over 2 billion dollars nationwide. In fiscal year 1972 about 80 percent of mail volume is business type and will bear most of the rise.
