Tests of a state of the art treatment plant for high level waste at the Savannah River Site are set to begin in about a week. The Defense Waste Processing Facility will treat waste from 51 underground tanks and mix it with glass particles before storing the canisters on site. The plant, five years behind schedule with cost overruns, faces further delays.
