Jones Aides Weigh Commissioner Run For South Carolina Governor
Charleston legislators note state highway commission chairman C S Jones as a rising gubernatorial candidate aided by friendly backers. Other leaders tied to Governor Richards era, including Lt. Gov. Butler and ex Lt. Gov. Jackson, are discussed as possible contenders with Glenn McCaslin and Blackwood also prominent in the field. Campaigns hinge on future highway legislation and anti tax platforms while war vessel spending looms in broader political chatter.
