Temperatures reach new highs in Southeast

A heat wave set new records across the Southeast as a stalled air mass from the Midwest fires moved in. Augusta hit 106 degrees, surpassing a 1936 June 29 record, while Columbia reached 108 degrees, an all-time high for the city according to National Weather Service meteorologist Tony Petrolito.
