Remains of old Charleston fish basin found at Market Street
Workers unearth a 30 by 2 foot wall believed to be part of Charleston’s historic fish basin once at the end of Market Street. Archaeologist Eric Poplin notes the feature dated to early 1700s while the 1902 map confirms a basin there. Water system crews will preserve what remains as they dig a sewer tunnel.
