Shackelford Named Hospital Board Chief
Carey M. Shackelford of Southern Bell Telephone Co. was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aiken County Hospital at a recent meeting. William Christy was elected vice chairman and J. Sam Nesbit Jr. will continue as secretary treasurer. The medical staff named Dr. James L. Bland chief of staff, Dr. William B. Mullins vice chief, and Dr. Don L. Pennington secretary.

Credit Dies as Filibuster Continues in South Carolina Senate
In Columbia AP report, the South Carolina Senate defeats a revolving credit bill after nearly twelve hours of filibuster by Sens. James Stevens and Ralph Gasque. Sen. Paul Moore leads a late effort for a judicial reform measure opposed by leading Senate forces. The chamber also fights over a proposal to raise the gasoline tax two cents. A roll call 18-8 table vote scuttled the credit bill, which was referred back to Banking and Insurance. The body adjourned at 11 40 p.m. with little progress on reform or tax plans.
