Three psychologists evaluated her over the weekend, and the court decided she can understand the charges and possible penalties and testify if called. The judge also weighed a motion for mistrial and a jury recall over death penalty procedures, noting a recent federal ruling on Florida's death penalty.

Judge blocks parts of Ga immigration law

A federal judge temporarily blocked key provisions of Georgia new immigration law on Monday. The ruling stops police from checking immigration status without proper ID and halting suspected illegal immigrants, and blocks a clause criminalizing harboring or transporting illegal immigrants with another crime. The decision cites federal enforcement priorities and potential unlawful seizures. Civil liberties groups sought broader injunctions, while some claims were left intact.
