Aiken Plans Development Corporation To Lead Major Projects
City officials endorse forming a Development Corporation to oversee large ventures such as a business park and a pilot housing project west of downtown. The plan envisions merger with the Downtown Aiken Development Corporation, initial funding from federal Community Development Funds and an industrial park account, and aims for a self-sustaining structure with expertise provided by city staff. A $36,000 Savannah River Diversification Initiative grant is expected in July to help establish the group.
