Aiken County Museum opens Banksia exhibit with birthday celebration
The Aiken County Historical Museum unveiled a new Banksia exhibit celebrating the original owner’s 158th birthday. Courtney Yarborough and Phillip Yarborough cut the ribbon and hosted a book reading and birthday song for Richard Howe, whose home was built around 1931 from two houses joined as Banksia. The display covers the Howe family, enslaved people, and servants who lived there, with original wallpaper and a 1930s style bathroom.

Aiken man charged with third degree sexual conduct
William Grist NT, 31, of Wise Hollow Road in Aiken, was charged on June 21 with third degree sexual conduct in a case arising from an alleged assault at a group home on Wise Hollow Road. Deputies said the victim reported being forced to have sex. Grist admitted to sex but denied consent. He bonded out the same day on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond.
