Subdivision roads tested for sinkholes in Gem Lakes area

Aiken city officials hired W.R. Toole Engineering of Augusta for a $30,000 soil and roadway investigation after a Gem Lakes extension sinkhole developed when a dump truck collapsed a weakened road. Deep core sampling up to 10 feet is underway, with Willmer Engineering of Atlanta to complete testing and deliver results by July.

SCE&G tree trimming plan aims to keep lines clear

SCE&G outlines a five year cycle for trimming and cutting trees to prevent power line interference. Linemen in the CSRA area trim and remove tall species when needed under ANSI 300 guidelines with arborist oversight. The company will disconnect service lines at no cost to permit safe limb removal and maintains minimum clearances of 20 feet above lines and 10 feet to the sides.
