Attorney General weighs in on Aiken Council oversight
The South Carolina Attorney General released an opinion about whether Aiken City Council members must consult the city manager before monitoring or investigating municipal operations. It says council cannot interfere with direct supervision of city employees but may seek information in a legislative capacity. Councillor Dick Dewar prompted the inquiry by citing earlier council actions at Public Safety. Both Smith and Dewar declined comment pending further discussion.
