Aiken County approves 1983 84 budget with 3 percent raise
The Aiken County Council, by 5 to 2, second reading a 10.4 million budget for 1983 84. No tax increase is planned though personnel changes remain unsettled. Four full time and one part time sheriff EMS staff will be added while a solicitor office position is eliminated.

John Green to resign as Aiken recreation director
John Green will resign July 5 as director of the Aiken Recreation Department to become director of recreation for Greenville County. Terry Rhinehart will serve as acting director. City Manager Roland Windham praises Green’s service and the strength he added to the program. Green joined in October 1982 from Robert Marvin and Associates. He and his wife Joyce have two sons, Ryan and Doug.

School Group Seeks 3.81 Mill Tax Hike For District
A special committee recommended a 3.81 mill school tax increase to raise about 500000 for bonded indebtedness to fund architectural work and renovations. If approved, the bill would rise about 7.62 on a 50000 house. The board could vote June 28.
