The Red Cross urges care as continuing heat grips the state. Hydrate by drinking fluids, avoid caffeine and alcohol, wear light breathable clothing, and avoid strenuous activity in peak heat. Use a buddy system outdoors, take breaks, check on pets, and seek cooler shade with cold water to prevent heat illness. Heat stroke is life threatening. Call emergency services and move to a cooler place. Early signs of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating and rapid pulse.
