North Augusta City Council supports a proposal by Elaine van der Linden to link Molly's Militia with the city animal-control program to boost adoptions and lower euthanasia. No formal agreement yet. a July vote is planned. van der Linden says volunteers will handle more work but the effort should succeed.
Rhett Stevens will move to first grade after completing a mainstream kindergarten path then joins a five week autism class at East Aiken Elementary as part of Aiken County's extended school year program. The program runs at four sites with teachers Patsy Sheldon and Melissa Chance guiding the five week sessions. Dawn Stevens praises the year round schooling opportunity as crucial for Rhett's progress and readiness. Kaylee Phillips mentors Mark Kraske in the class. both families note their friendship and support. East Aiken hosts multiple classes with therapists and assistants aiding about 150 students across sites including Clearwater Elementary Kennedy Middle and L B C Middle. The program serves students needing ongoing services beyond the traditional year and includes speech therapy from eight therapists.
