The Aiken County Republican Party postpones its June 27 primary until the state legislature selects a new date after guidance from the U S Justice Department on a numbered seat clause. Vice chairman Clay Miner says no new date has been set yet.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports May CPI up 0.3 to 124.7, meaning $12.47 per $10 base, as clothing and transportation costs push overall living costs higher. Wages for about 50 million workers rose two cents per hour and 74 cents per week to $133.21, outpacing inflation amid Phase 2 controls.

Gus Robinson a longtime nuclear energy official with the Atomic Energy Commission will retire June 30 ending 31 years of federal service including 29 in nuclear energy. He now serves as assistant to the Savannah River Operations Office manager and earlier worked with the wartime Manhattan Engineer District.
North Augusta city must construct a 1.75 million sewerage treatment plant and have it operating by March 31, 1974 under a ruling by Second Judicial Circuit Judge Julius B. Ness. The order warns bans on sewage tap ons and building permits if not met. Mayor Raymond Walters said the schedule is workable and funded with a mix of city and federal grants.

An 18 year old from Huachuca Arizona, Keith Moffett, died from injuries after a collision in North Augusta. He was a passenger in a car driven by 18 year old Charles Logue, who was hospitalized. The crash occurred at Alta Vista intersection. Logue reported not seeing a stop sign. Moffett had been in Augusta for funeral director training with Poteet Funeral Home.
