The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a bill to guarantee $3 billion in loans for livestock feeders facing economic pressure. Earl L. Indigent care costs rose to 21 611.40 for one month, with admin predicting 25 000 to 30 000 monthly unless patient filtering lowers costs.
Two brothers, James Calvin Morrison and David Doyle Morrison, jailed in Portland, face an extradition hearing tentatively set for July 15. Extradition papers signed by Gov. John West were mailed to Oregon officials, with South Carolina awaiting the return signature of Gov. Tom McCall. They are accused in the June 2 murder deaths of three Fort Gordon soldiers at Clark Hill. A separate hearing will determine bond eligibility.
Paramedical Services Inc. agrees to sell the Aiken County ambulance service to the Aiken County Ambulance Service Commission. The deal sets the price by total liabilities, with a cap of 80 964 dollars unless liabilities are lower, then the payment equals liabilities plus 1 000 dollars. Aiken County will assume fixed assets and receivables, Paramedical covers liabilities and taxes at closing July 1. County funds redirected to run the service, with monthly payments likely similar to prior arrangements.
Cleve Edmunds a Belvedere businessman filed as a Democratic candidate for Area No 2 on the Aiken County Board of Commissioners. He operates Edmunds Bar-B-Que and moves from Harlem Georgia where he led the Jaycees. Edmunds will run unopposed in the Democratic Primary and faces the Republican winner on July 16 against Edwin Farmer or Grady Whitlaw.
The forecast calls for thundershowers this afternoon in Aiken County with little temperature change. Daytime highs and tomorrow’s will stay in the lower 80s. Tonight’s low near 70, with a 40 percent rain chance today, 30 percent tonight, and 20 percent Friday. Winds southwest at 10 to 15 mph today and tomorrow, easing to about 5 mph tonight.
Aiken Jaycees capture first place nationwide for the most outstanding ways and means project at the National Jaycee Convention in San Diego. The Aiken County Fair, run on 30 acres bought near the Jaycee Hut, earned the top honor among 136 SC Jaycees, with new president John Surles among them.
