Community initiatives cited by Children’s Place leader
Peggy Ford of the United Way agency Children’s Place told Aiken Rotary Club that community initiatives date back to early neighbors and a 1952 project now known as United Way of Aiken County. She highlighted email networks for parents, the Healthy Start program to aid babies, and cited a 62 percent reduction in child abuse in Hampton Virginia communities where it has been used. Ford said Aiken is now a safer place for babies to come into the world.
