Training Needed For Jobs Of 1980s
Two landmark shifts in American work began 25 years ago with white-collar and service sectors expanding, blue-collar shrinking, and farm jobs declining. By 1985 white-collar roles were projected to exceed 51 percent of 104.3 million jobs, while service occupations rose and blue-collar fell. Training became essential, from apprenticeships to college, as the job market shifted. The Bulletin lists where to obtain training in schools, private programs, employer programs, apprenticeships, home study, federal job programs, military, and colleges.

Higher Pay For Mexicans To Be Decided
A federal judge in Roanoke will rule next Wednesday on whether Virginia tobacco farmers must pay the $3.51 Adverse Effect Wage Rate for Mexican field hands. The government says the higher wage protects American jobs, while farmers say they cannot find enough American workers and the higher pay would ruin their profits.
