Demolition Moves Forward for Krispy Kreme Site in Aiken
The former Ladd Britt Auto Sales at 2270 Whiskey Road began tearing down Thursday to make way for a 4000 square foot Krispy Kreme with a drive thru and a 15000 square foot Harbor Freight Tools. City council approved a development agreement and annexation of the 2.76 acre site into the city with planned commercial zoning after stormwater issues were resolved. The city invested between 150000 and 200000 in the project around George's Pond.

Aiken adjusts inmate labor as Lower Savannah closes
Aiken will replace 20 inmate workers from the Public Services Department with 10 temporary employees after the Lower Savannah Pre-Release Center closes. Tim Coakley said a 60 day reprieve allows time to transition inmate labor to temporary hires and pickup will shift from Lower Savannah to Trenton Correctional Institution until August.

Severe thunderstorms and damage hit Aiken County
High winds and heavy rain swept through Aiken County causing widespread outages with more than 30 000 customers affected state wide and 5 000 plus in the county. Many streets were blocked by downed trees and power lines while crews worked to restore service and extinguish fires. No tornadoes were reported.
