Senate Delays Vote On South Carolina Leadership Post

Senator Yancey McGill indicated readiness to move to lieutenant governor for six months, but party wrangling stalled a vote on the No. 2 post. Senate races over who can trigger McGill’s pro tem successor delayed the expected leadership election as Hugh Leatherman appears poised to win support for McGill.

South Carolina House Moves to Override Haley Vetoes

The South Carolina House voted 103 to 6 to override most of Gov. Nikki Haley's vetoes, including a $2 million line for elderly caregiver programs as part of roughly $18 million reduced from the $7 billion budget. A two thirds vote is required for overrides, and lawmakers also kept a $12,000 raise for lawmakers that would not take effect for at least four years.
