Debate over power to hire executive director at Aiken elections office
The Aiken County Registration and Elections Commission faces a clash with the legislative delegation over appointing the executive director. Officials argue the delegation should not supervise day to day operations, citing risk of influence since members are candidates. The delegation has resisted changing the statute, which reserves hiring power to the delegation.
