Poll finds little support for school tax hike in Aiken County
Frederik B. Christensen reports a 20 to 1 negative response from the Aiken County Taxpayers Association poll. About 100 to 150 attended. 66 questionnaires were collected, with some couples sharing forms. Only three teachers supported the rise, and several older residents left early, suggesting the sample was not fully representative.

Coleman urges building staff long term for appraisal work
Coleman argues for expanding his appraisal staff instead of hiring a private firm to do speedier work. He questions private contractors’ cost efficiency and warns his office could fall behind again after enforcement ends. Since 1975 Law 208 raised appraisal difficulty, reclassifying mobile homes as real property. He notes no regular reappraisal schedule, monitors county trends, and targets areas with largest gaps between market value and assessed value. A statewide goal of tax equalization aims for market-value assessment by 1981.
