The City of Aiken won a $500,000 grant from the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority to add a second parallel sewer line along U.S. Highway 1 and I 20 Exit 22 extending to Windham Boulevard and Verones Industrial Park. The project, centered on Shaw Industries, aims to boost industrial capacity and future development while easing service for 10 industrial, 59 commercial, and seven residential customers. City Council approved the grant unanimously, with plans to seek $360,000 more from capital funds later, as the fourth round of sales tax funds remains temporarily frozen.
